I forgot all about this!
I did it in 2005, my graduating year of highschool. The assignment was to find a visual and paint it on wood board, and then carve out parts of the board. The top had to be cut out into something from the picture, for me it was the lanterns. Then there's grooves cut throughout the fan, the outline of the geisha's body and in her hairpiece. So when you touch the painting, there should be texture in those places. Neat huh?
This was the most successful painting i've done in my entire life lol. I'm pretty proud of it, which is good.
Acrylic paints.
EDIT: um, also, her kimono is black (i'm not sure if kimono is correct, but it looks too heavy to be a yukata). The flash from my camera made it gray-looking. Just so's ya know
Awesome. Looks like a real photograph. (beside the fact this it sorts is) Good job.

eep!
I was sure everyone saw it. You're probably not the only one who hasn't seen it. But still, you were at my house a while back and it should have been on the wall then too.
But you know I wouldn't just go around saying "Oh, come look at this. Come see what I did, it's amazing!" I dunno. But I'm sorry I didn't show you.
aw!
Thanks Ian, that makes me proud
Though I could always get better.
This painting got really frustrating as I got further into it. Doing her face was the worst. I painted over it at least 15 times.
Excellent blending of colour in the background. Love those greens. And in the shine on her hair - creates a smooth, slick texture like oil and so like good black Japanese hair. I wish I could touch it myself, I like tactile sensation.
First prize. By the way, pleasant to see other Winnipeg deviants.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
